The Marsing High School Media Center serves approximately 215 ninth through twelfth grade students and an instructional staff of 19.  The 6,500 titles in the collection circulated 2,900 times during the 2006-2007 school year.  The collection consists of fiction and non-fiction books, a reference section, videos and a multiple copy collection.  There are fourteen computers for student use.  A full time certified library specialist administers this media center and supervises the other two media centers in the district.  All the selecting, purchasing, and cataloging of materials for all three media centers are completed by the high school media specialist.

Students are responsible for the materials they check out.  Most library materials are checked out for 10 school days, with longer checkouts available upon request.  If materials become overdue, students are charged $0.10 a day for each day overdue, excluding weekends, holidays, and days the student is absent.  Reference materials, magazines, interlibrary loan materials, computer notebooks, and videos are checked out overnight.  If these materials become overdue, students are charged $0.25 a day for each day overdue, excluding weekends, holidays, and any days the student is absent.  Students with lost materials are charged at the replacement cost of the item or the fine amount; which ever is larger.

The profits from the school store and fine monies go toward the purchase of additional books, equipment and the monetary awards for the top 3 students who accumulate the most Accelerated Reader (AR) points during the school year.  In the spring after reading at least three of the nominated books, students vote on their favorite Young Reader’s Choice book, which is sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Library Association.

Marsing High School Media Center patrons/parents must pay a one-time users fee of $2.00, to defray postage and clerical work before checking out materials.  Patrons are encouraged to use the local public library.
