The Marsing Elementary School Media Center serves approximately 415 kindergarten through fifth grade students and an instructional staff of 28.  The 7,800 titles in the collection circulated 12,200 times during the 2006-2007 school year.  The collection is divided into an Easy Section (K-3 grade) and a Regular Section (4th-5th grade), which include both fiction and non-fiction titles.  The special collections consist of read-alongs (book and cassette), reference, Spanish language, videos and the multiple copy collection.  There are six computers for student use.  A library assistant manages this media center for approximately 5 hours per day..

The profits from the school store and fines go toward the purchase of new books and the monetary awards give to the top 3 students who accumulate the most Accelerate Reader (AR) points during the school year.  In the spring after reading at least three of the nominated books, students vote on their favorite Young Reader’s Choice books, which is sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Library Association.

Students are responsible for the materials they check out.  Most library materials are checked out for 10 school days.  All students visit the media center multiple times a week as a class in addition to individual student visits with teacher permission.
